Free Jacks u23

The Free Jacks U23 squad, nicknamed “The Independents,” is the premier U23 rugby program in all of New England, designed to complement the Collegiate Rugby schedule. Since its inaugural year in 2021, the team has produced on average at least 1 MLR draft pick each year — developed through a full calendar of training that builds toward a domestic season and an international tour.

The Program

In 2027, the Free Jacks U23 season will consist of 8 weeks of programming made up of open tryouts, weekly training sessions, a 2-3 game domestic season, as well as the opportunity to participate in an unforgettable international Rugby tour to Ireland in partnership with Free Jacks travel partner, Cara Group Travel. 

The Independents are coached by a dedicated staff of experienced rugby coaches, featuring former USA Eagle Nate Brakely as Head Coach, with special coaching appearances from Free Jacks Senior team coaches and players throughout the Independents campaign.

Schedule: The Independents season will run from early-May through mid-June of 2027. 

  • Tryouts / roster placement session will be held on 5/2/27
  • Mid-May through Early-June will be the domestic season, featuring 2-3 competitive match opportunities and weekly training sessions.
  • The Independents will tour Ireland for a week between June 7 – June 18

**Match and training dates are yet to be fully confirmed, and thus are subject to minor changes, but the schedule will generally resemble that stated above.**

Additional Details

  • Tryouts, training sessions, and home games will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy.
  • Registration for the Free Jacks U23 2027 program is open and available through the link below.  This $150 registration fee guarantees participation in all Free Jacks U23 programming with the exception of the international tour. Fees for the touring aspect of the U23 program will be collected separately for athletes able to attend.
