Boston – August 18, 2022 – With the 17th pick in the second round of the 2022 Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft, the Free Jacks today select Tomas Casares. The 6’3”, 230 lb back row brings excellent ariel ability and all-around physicality to the Free Jacks ahead of the 2023 MLR Season.
“Tomas has the physical attributes to compete at the MLR level and possesses strong aerial skills,” noted Free Jacks Performance Director, Tom Kindley. “He has a series of experiences across Argentina, New Zealand and the US which will hold him in good stead in his MLR journey.”
The Free Jacks selected 23-year-old Casares as a graduate from Thomas More University. Casares has already had an impressive rugby career having represented Auckland Under 19 squad while training in New Zealand. Casares has showcased his impressive ariel skills at lineout time and his physicality around the park while competing with the Jaguars age grade program and within the Auckland premier club competition.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Casares qualifies as a US eligible option for the Free Jacks through his father.
The Free Jacks are excited to welcome Tomas to New England and showcase his impressive work-horse mentality as part of the 2023 MLR squad.
