Elite & Developing Players to Benefit from Additional Competitive Opportunities in 7s
BOSTON, Massachusetts – Free Jacks today announced a new partnership with the Ramblin’ Jesters, one of the globe’s premier 7s teams, to help continue to grow rugby in New England by providing additional US and international playing opportunities in the shortened version of rugby (7s).
The London-based Ramblin’ Jesters have continued to grow their US presence with successful stints at the RugbyTown 7s (Glendale, CO) previously and recent team selections that have included current US Eagles 7s players and other proven international 7s stars.
The partnership will see both elite and development Free Jacks players and coaches immerse in various Ramblin’ Jesters tours, with the first wave of players slated to participate at the RugbyTown 7s in August, approvals pending, to play alongside and learn from other elite players within the Ramblin’ Jesters family.
Free Jacks players will be selected to the Ramblin’ Jesters who have competed on the Sevens World Series previously and / or shown promise as future international 7s players through participation in the Free Jacks Academy, performances with the Northeast 7s Academy, and / or in the New England collegiate and the club 7s circuits.
“It is exciting to form this relationship with the Free Jacks,” Ramblin’ Jesters owner David Barry said. “We are keen to grow our US activity and connections and create opportunities for players on both sides of the Atlantic to play rugby to an elite level. The Free Jacks have a great vision for developing rugby for all in the New England region–a historically strong and key geography in the US sporting landscape.”
“Immersions in the seven-a-side version of the game with one of the world’s best touring 7s programs will enable some of our best young athletes and crossovers an accelerated path into the professional game as well as an opportunity for our top senior players another opportunity to get their persona and the Free Jacks to new markets,” said New England Free Jacks CEO, Alex Magleby. “As the game grows stateside and accelerates in New England, it is important we continue to build and develop opportunities for current and future Free Jacks to enhance their skills under pressure, play in different environments, and experience the fun of touring rugby in the grand tradition of the Barbarians and other all-star teams.”
