Mark Cameron Chosen as 2025 Impact Free Jack Honoree
Mark Cameron served as a paramedic in and around the City of Boston for nearly 20 years before retiring from frontline service in 2022. Mark is drawn to helping others, a passion that has only grown over the years. During his years of service, Mark trained countless new medics as a Field Training Officer. He contributed his extensive knowledge and experience to the training of residents during their cardiac rotations at Mass General Hospital. Mark did this while serving as a medic in emergency departments and taught the next generation of medical students in college classrooms and simulation labs.
After two years as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic and during the height of the COVID pandemic, Mark transitioned from frontline first responder service to that of a seasoned educator. Even after moving away from frontline response, Mark’s commitment to service remained unwavering. He now coordinates and manages operations in simulation and skills labs for one of the top nursing programs in the country at Simmons University in Boston.
Mark has been an American Heart Association Instructor at Mass General Hospital for 15 years, where he continues to instruct the medical community on Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Mark also contributes his considerable experience, knowledge, and calming presence at area urgent care facilities. Mark’s sense of humor and cool head have alleviated the most stressful moments of countless patients.
His natural inclination to help others in moments of need is a testament to his character. Now, even though he has shifted the scope of his work, Mark naturally steps up in moments of need.
“I have personally witnessed Mark assisting someone choking at the dinner table, ensuring a fellow guest at a wedding with significant health and mobility challenges could be comfortable and safe, and more. Stepping up and helping out is simply part of his nature,” says his partner Tricia.
Mark’s patience, passion for his work, and tremendous depth of knowledge and experience are part of what make him such an effective teacher to the many who have learned from him in classrooms, on the scene, in emergency rooms, and more. There are many paramedics, medical assistants, physician assistants, nurses, doctors, and instructors in and around the City of Boston who have learned from Mark Cameron. As a result, they are better practitioners and their patients are better for it as well.
Outside of saving lives and educating the masses, Mark’s passion for rugby began when he started playing in his 20s. He introduced Tricia and his son to the sport, and now Mark’s son plays collegiate rugby. This year, Mark and Tricia became season ticket holders for the New England Free Jacks.
Mark’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have on their community. His steadfast commitment to service and education has not only improved the skills of countless healthcare professionals but has also directly benefited the patients they serve.
