Boston, MA – The New England Free Jacks are preparing for their last game of the 2019 season as the team looks to face a formidable Lansdowne this coming Saturday June 1st, at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, MA.
“We are excited to host another challenging opponent at the Irish Cultural Centre and know it will be a wonderful day of rugby for the whole community,” commented Head Coach Josh Smith. “This Lansdowne team is sure to test us on the field, but if we trust the process and if the boys continue the way we have been these last few weeks I have no doubt their energy, physicality, and the system we have in place will turn pressure into points on gameday.”
The match is the culmination of the New England Free Jack’s exhibition season in which the team hosted the Cara Cup, a celebration of friendship and rugby between the four ‘A’ teams of the Irish Provinces. Connacht, Ulster, Munster and Leinster each ventured to the Boston area to face the Free Jacks and each other.
“Its been an incredible launch to professional rugby in New England and we really think the fans have embraced the Free Jacks as a franchise. Schools, clubs, friends and the whole community have come together to grow the game of rugby in Boston and the New England area,” noted Free Jacks Operations Director, Owen Scannell. “One of our missions at the Free Jacks is to grow the game for everyone and it has been exciting to watch the support for the team grow as fans have led the growth of the game.”
Kickoff is set for 3:30pm for the game between New England and Lansdowne. Prior to the exhibition match, a home opener between Boston Irish Wolfhounds and Lansdowne 2nd team will take place at the Irish Cultural Centre at 2pm.
