The former Ohio State tighthead looks to make a big impact in the 2022 season
Boston, MA — November 22, 2021 — The Free Jacks are proud to welcome back robust front rower Spencer Krueger to his second year with the New England squad. At 6’1”, 260lbs, the 2020 MLR second round draft pick from Illinois is looking to take his game to the next level this upcoming season.
Originally from Arlington Heights, Illinois, Krueger developed his game by competing with teams such as the Chicago Lions, Marist Albion Rugby Football Club in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the Crusaders International Academy. With both local and international experience under his belt, Krueger made a smooth transition into his first season in the MLR.
Before being drafted into the inaugural 2020 Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft, Krueger captained the Ohio State Men’s Rugby Club in 2019. During his time in college, Spencer was recognized as a Collegiate All-American in 2018, and in 2017 and 2018 received distinctions as a US Collegiate tighthead prop.
In the fall of 2020, Krueger was also selected to join the Ohio Aviators at the World Tens Series taking place in Bermuda, where the team made its way into the tournament finals.
“We are delighted to have Spencer back in the fold for 2022,” commented Free Jacks Performance Director, Tom Kindley. “Spencer has a year of valuable MLR experience under his belt alongside some quality professionals in the Free Jacks front row which is really important for young fellas’ coming out of the collegiate game. He is a hard working, coachable, likable bloke and having bided his time during 2021, he has a burning desire to stake his claim this season.”
The Free Jacks front row continues to strengthen with the likes of competitive players such as Spencer Krueger. Look forward to seeing the stoic tighthead on the pitch in 2022 as he prepares to head into his second MLR season.
