Macdonald is from Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, and played his club rugby for Te Puna before being picked up by Bay of Plenty in 2018. After a move to Sydney, Macdonald starred for Gordon in the Shute Shield from 2019 to 2022, being the competition’s top scorer that last year. After an impressive first season for the Free Jacks, he was named ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2023.
