The New England Free Jacks today announced the first competition fixtures for the U23 Independents Academy Team. The New England U23 Independents are set to play a home and away double header with Rugby United New York’s U23 side on May 23 and July 3. To prepare for the matches, the Free Jacks will hold two selection days on May 1 and May 2 to assess and develop players from across New England.
The Free Jacks will host North and South selection days on May 1st at Pine Banks, Malden, and May 2nd, at a location to be confirmed. These selection days will build upon the Free Jacks Academy’s Regional Tracking days in which the Free Jacks Academy staff visited 8 of the 13 Regional Training Groups to work with, develop and identify local players around New England. Following the ID sessions in May, a wider training squad will be selected for the following weeks preparation for the spring competition with Rugby United New York.

Ages: 18Â – 23 (Women and Men)
Objective: To evaluate fundamental skills and physical performance. Train and Develop understanding of the 5 pillars of rugby within the Free Jack way and the accompanying skill sets. Apply newfound skills and knowledge in small sided games manufactured to add time and space constraints.
Athletes that demonstrate exceptional performance and or potential will be selected for the u23 New England Independents training squad to compete against Rugby United New York.
