Free Jacks announce short term loan of Tevita Sole to the Miami Sharks.

Tevita heads south to the Miami Sharks for a period of up to 10 weeks.

Tevita Sole (Prop) entered his third season with the Free Jacks in 2024 having been with the side since the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Originally from Tonga, Tevita has represented his country at U20’s in the 2019 World Rugby Trophy tournament.

“Tevita is working hard towards attaining his American-eligibility and developing his game. As such, the plan around his development has always been longer term,” commented General Manager, Tom Kindley. This is an awesome opportunity for Tevita to vie for more game time in Miami with eyes on furthering his development. We look forward to him returning home for the back end of the regular season and playoffs.”

Tevita is the third player on short term loan from the Free Jacks in 2024, following Ivan Paula and Junior Gafa who were loaned to Anthem RC earlier this year (Read more). However unlike the player loans to Anthem, there are a few extra conditions with the Miami loan. Firstly, Free Jacks reserve the right to call Tevita back at any time prior to June 2 if required. Secondly Tevita is not allowed to compete against the Free Jacks when the clubs meet at the Free Jacks Yacht Rock Festival on Apr 6, 2024. 

So why do the Free Jacks agree to short term loans? “The opportunity for our players to get regular game time in the MLR is vital for the development of our squad,” said Tom Kindley, General Manager. “We expect our players on loan to return with more experience and ultimately be better players than when they left”.
