FREE JACKS CO-FOUNDER ALEX MAGLEBY APPOINTED MAJOR LEAGUE RUGBY (MLR) CO-PRESIDENT
QUINCY, MA – The New England Free Jacks proudly congratulate club Co-Founder Alex Magleby on his appointment today as Co-President of Major League Rugby. In this role Magleby will co-lead the executive team at MLR overseeing the league’s long-term strategy, brand development, partnerships, media and expansion storytelling. The league’s appointment underscores the pivotal role Magleby has played not only in building the Free Jacks into a championship-winning organization, but also in helping shape the broader trajectory of professional rugby across North America.
Since the club’s founding, Magleby has been instrumental in establishing a uniquely New England model of community-driven growth, competitive excellence, and joyful match-day experiences. His influence has extended beyond the club—from supporting league-wide strategy to advancing pathways, partnerships, and storytelling essential for the sport’s long-term success in the U.S.
With MLR’s new dual-president structure, Magleby will help guide the league’s forward-looking vision, strengthen its brand narrative, and support the kind of ecosystem-wide growth that ultimately benefits every club, including the Free Jacks.
Magleby’s co-founding partner in the Free Jacks and control owner Errik Anderson expressed strong support for the league’s move:
“We’re incredibly proud that Alex’s leadership is being recognized at the highest level of the league,” said Anderson. “His success building the Free Jacks has always been rooted in the belief that the entire American rugby ecosystem must thrive. His new role at MLR strengthens the foundation for long-term growth—not just for the league, but for the Free Jacks and our passionate New England community.”
Importantly, the Free Jacks remain well-positioned for continued excellence.
- CEO Ian Frenette oversees all club’s business operations, partnerships, and commercial growth, ensuring the organization remains stable, ambitious, and aligned with an expanding regional footprint.
- General Manager Tom Kindley continues to lead rugby operations with the same high-performance standards that have defined the club’s championship culture.
As Magleby takes on a league-wide leadership role, his strategic elevation reflects a shared belief across the Free Jacks organization: a stronger MLR means a stronger Free Jacks. The club looks forward to supporting the league’s continued evolution and to building a vibrant future for rugby in New England and across North America.
