Anthony Purpura

Prop who can play both sides of the scrum. A Haverhill, Mass, native, Tony played football and wrestled at Brooks and Avon Old Farms before hitting the gridiron at UMaine where he picked up rugby. Prop who can play both sides of the scrum. A Haverhill, Mass, native, Tony played football and wrestled at Brooks and Avon Old Farms before hitting the gridiron at UMaine where he picked up rugby. Tony rapidly developed his game and represented the Collegiate All-Americans, before going on to play for the United States National Team as Eagle #416. He has earned 11 international caps to date.

He previously spent time with the San Diego Legion and has had repetitions in clubs in Boston (BRFC & Mystic), Old Blue, OMBAC, Calgary, and Canterbury. Tony has been a great advocate for the Free Jacks this spring as one of the club’s community performance coaches. Tony has been a long time coach and leader in the Boston Rugby community. He has coached around New England with high schools Brookline and Cambridge Rindge & Latin, and in 2013 co-founded Boston Rugby Camps, a free camp for local aspiring rugby players.
