Beloved Free Jacks Hooker Andrew Quattrin Earns Pro D2 Opportunity with Valence Romans
The New England Free Jacks are proud to announce that legendary Free Jacks and Canadian International Hooker, Andrew Quattrin will be embarking on a new chapter, joining the Roman-Sur-Isère based French side for the 2025/6 ProD2 season. It is a well deserved opportunity who has been nothing short of exceptional on and off the field since his arrival to New England ahead of the 2023 Major League Rugby season.
A Free Jacks Legend:
Andrew Quattrin (Free Jack #81) departs the Free Jacks having created an amazing legacy since his arrival ahead of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Across three seasons, the uncompromising front rower has made 48 appearances in red white and blue (while starting 41 games), scoring 18 tries along the way. The three-time champion is one of only four players to appear in all three MLR Championship matches for the club, starting in all three games.
Major League Rugby Legacy:
A proud Canadian International, Andrew Quattrin competed for the Toronto Arrows for four seasons between 2019 and 2022, amassing a further 48 appearances (starting 41 of these also!). Overall, Quattrin has made 96 Major League Rugby appearances (starting 82). Andrew is undoubtedly one of MLR’s greatest players to date.
Community First:
As impressive as Andrew’s on-field accomplishments are, equally are his contributions to his local communities throughout his Major League Rugby career to date.
Quattrin was the first ever winner of the S. Marcus Calloway Community Impact Award in 2022, donating $5000 to Optimism Place (his non-profit of choice). The award is presented to the player who most inspires others to action, shows strength in character, aids those less fortunate, and embraces the core values of rugby.
- In Toronto:
Andrew was a tireless community leader in Toronto, dedicating over 100 hours in 2022 alone to initiatives across Toronto and inspiring his Teammates to contribute significantly. As the Toronto Arrows designated community leader, he organized and attended countless events, while balancing the demands of professional rugby. For seven consecutive years, he supported donation drives for Optimism Place, a women’s shelter in Stratford Ontario.
- In New England:
An electrifying presence from his arrival in Quincy, Andrew has been a key driver in making the Free Jacks environment what it is today. Andrew co-created events to connect on a deeper level with his teammates, drive meaning and ensure plenty of laughs are had within the team setting.
This season, Andrew received the most prestigious Free Jacks honor, the Minuteman Award. The award recognizes a player who embodies selflessness, leadership, and community spirit. Andrew has been a consistent force behind the Free Jacks’ community outreach efforts, particularly in building relationships with local first responders and championing causes that support those in need across New England. His efforts have included setting up the following team initiatives:
- Yawkey Housing Resource Center – Organizing meal services for individuals experiencing housing insecurity.
- Operation Sock Drop – Leading a clothing donation campaign to benefit local shelters
- Cutting Hair for Charity – Donating his hair to the Dana-Farber Institute while raising funds for Marisa’s Mission, a local charity supporting cancer patients and their families.
- Quincy Veterans Food Delivery – Coordinating weekly grocery drop-offs in partnership with Rosie’s Bounty.
- The Prison Book Program – Supporting literacy and rehabilitation by curating reading lists and donating books to incarcerated individuals through a program based in Quincy.
- Mixed Abilities Rugby Program – Andrew has played a lead role in driving mixed abilities rugby programming with local Boys and Girls’ clubs in the Boston area.
Though perhaps most importantly, his efforts have inspired and encouraged others to follow his lead and give back to the region.
Thank you:
A note from General Manager at the Free Jacks, Tom Kindley:
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew for his incredibly hard work and selflessness during the past three years. He has lived and breathed what this club stands for on a daily basis, and made colossal contributions to the region and our people. He should be proud of the epic legacy he has left. We are delighted to see Andrew recognized with this opportunity and back him every step of the way.”
